Cabinet refinishing

Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing

Doors go to the shop and through the custom spray booth, in any colour you choose.

A Custom Look Without the Custom Price

Kitchen cabinets age in a particular way. The boxes stay sound for years while the finish wears thin at the handles, yellows near the stove and goes out of style long before anything actually fails. Replacing a whole kitchen to fix a color is a large bill for a cosmetic problem. Cloudland's own phrase for refinishing is a custom look without the custom price, and that is the whole idea: you keep the cabinetry you have and change what it looks like.

The color choice is where refinishing gets interesting. Cloudland's cabinet page lists the range in three examples, blush pink, black, bright navy, and the real answer is any color you choose. A kitchen that has been white or honey oak for years can go dark and dramatic, or soft and unexpected, without a single new door being built.

Pairing the cabinet color with the walls is a conversation worth having at the estimate. Ray Sola spent time working in a local paint store before he formed Cloudland, and the crew's interior work already includes help choosing color and finish. Bring a countertop sample or a photo of the backsplash and the decision gets easier.

Doors to the Shop, Through the Spray Booth

The cabinet doors don't get painted in your kitchen. They come off and go to the Cloudland shop at 44 Cloudland Road in North Haven, where they are sprayed in the company's own custom spray booth.

A spray booth earns its place for reasons a brush can't match. A sprayed finish lays down flat and even, without the brush marks and roller texture that show up on the raised edges of a door panel. Dust control and a dedicated drying space are what a booth is for. The shop is also where the mess lives, so overspray, solvent smell and drying racks stay out of the house where you cook.

Taking the doors away is also why the kitchen stays usable. Without doors you'll be looking at open shelves for the stretch the doors are gone, but you can still make coffee and find a pan. Ask Ray at the walk-through which parts of your cabinets travel to the shop and which are finished in place, because every kitchen is built a little differently.

Any Color, Rehung and Left to Cure

When the doors come back from the shop they are rehung, and the kitchen is whole again in its new color. Cloudland's answer on this is direct: cabinet doors are taken to the shop and sprayed, then brought back and rehung, in any color from blush pink to black to bright navy.

A word on curing, which is general paint science and not a Cloudland promise. A finish can feel dry in a day and still be soft for a while after. Go gently for the first weeks, keep heavy slamming and adhesive hooks off the new doors, and ask Ray how long the coating on your doors needs before the kitchen goes back to full duty.

Because the estimate is written, you'll know the scope before any door leaves the house. Cloudland gives free, no-obligation written estimates on residential painting, and a cabinet job is a good one to walk through in person: count the doors, pick the color, and settle the details on paper.
