Questions about painting your house

Ray Sola and the crew at 44 Cloudland Road in North Haven hear the same handful of questions before a job starts: what the estimate looks like, what happens to the furniture, whether a house built before 1978 is a lead job. The answers are below. If yours isn't, call (203) 234-9542 and ask Ray.

Yes. Cloudland Paintworks gives free, no-obligation written estimates for residential painting projects in North Haven and the surrounding New Haven County towns. On exteriors, Ray walks the house with photos and notes, and big jobs are broken into segments on the estimate.

Please put away small or valuable items beforehand. The crew will help protect and move larger furniture as needed, and floors, furniture and landscaping are covered before any work starts.

Generally every 5 to 7 years in our climate. The real answer depends on exposure, the paint used last time and how the surfaces were prepped, which is what the walk-around is for.

It can be. Every Cloudland painter, summer interns included, is lead-safe certified, and older homes are prepped and painted lead-safe. You get written information about lead before the work begins.

Cabinet doors are taken to the Cloudland shop and sprayed in a custom spray booth, then brought back and rehung. You can choose any colour, from blush pink to black to bright navy.

North Haven and the towns around it: Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Durham, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Meriden, Middlefield, Middletown, Milford, New Haven, Northford, North Branford, Orange, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.
